Sita Sings the Blues

Sita Sings the Blues is a 2008 animated feature written, directed, produced and almost entirely animated by Nina Paley. Using primarily 2D computer graphics and Flash animation, this multi-tasking maestro intertwines her own personal story with  a pared-down version of the Indian legend Ramayana, which adopts a sympathetic perspective towards Sita.  This is a unique, beautiful and imaginative feature released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License.

Film critic Roger Ebert had this to say:

I am enchanted. I am swept away. I am smiling from one end of the film to the other. It is astonishingly original. It brings together four entirely separate elements and combines them into a great whimsical chord… To get any film made is a miracle. To conceive of a film like this is a greater miracle.
